Join the Board of the National Autism Network

The National Autism Network (the Network) is looking for new Board members. This is a volunteer position.

Everyone is welcome to apply, however this year, we are also looking for people with professional experience in Human Resources or financial management.

The Network is a national, fully remote, not for profit organization. Our work centers Autistic people, families, and community to inform the Public Health Agency of Canada.

Board members help guide and oversee the organization’s direction.

Eligibility Disclaimer

Board members guide the big-picture strategy of the National Autism Network. They do not do the day-to-day staff work.

To avoid a conflict of interest, if you are elected to the Board, you cannot be hired for any staff job or join an Advisory Council or Strategic Priority Committee while you are a Board member.

What We Are Looking For

All applicants must:

• Have a connection to the autism community or sector (including lived experience, family experience, professional experience, or another meaningful connection)
• Be 18 years of age or older.
• Be a Member of the National Autism Network
• Not be currently bankrupt.
• Not be declared legally “incapable” by a court (Please note: we recognize this is harmful language, but we are legally required to include this rule by the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act).

We are hoping to hear from people with professional expertise in one or both of the following areas:

• Human Resources
• Financial management or accounting

Term Length and Time Commitment

Board members generally serve a one-year term, renewable annually. Some Board seats are elected to an initial two-year term to keep renewals staggered over time.

Board members are expected to:

• attend quarterly Board meetings virtually.
• participate in one committee of the Board (these are an additional 4 to 6 meetings per year).
• attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Timeline

New Board members selected through this process would officially join the Board at the AGM. The AGM is typically held in October.

How the Process Works

• Phase 1: Apply
  • Submit your application through the online form.
• Phase 2: Shortlisting
  • We will review all the applications and select a shortlist of candidates. 
• Phase 3: Contact
  • We will contact the shortlisted candidates. 
• Phase 4: Voting
  • Network members will vote on the final candidates.
• Phase 5: Confirmation
  • Selected candidates will be officially elected to the Board at the AGM.
